Okay…I’m confused by the objective of your post alongside why your quoting the whole things. As I only said about hopefully Subscribestar would let TheBassist join them but also to maybe look for alternatives just incase they didn’t. (It’s also been 4 months since the conversation here stopped)
Can you clarify please?
I don’t recall why I quoted your whole post. I think just to make it clear who I was responding to.
I meant to point out that for whatever bizarre reason, Patreon dumped 'Andy’s Dames", and he moved to Subscribestar.
Following up with that, I went through all of the creators I support on Patreon, and if they also had their content on Subscribestar, I switched my subscription there. There were a few creators that had limited the content they posted on Patreon, but faced no such limitations on Subscribestar.
Andy’s Dames got cut without warning, and in reference to other things the creator had online, but not posted on Patreon. If I understand correctly, Patreon demanded he remove content from places he had no control over. Quite arbitrarily, that revenue stream is done. No challenge, no arbitration, no appeal, just done.
If only Subscribestar would respond to literally ANY request for updates or support. My page has been “under review” for 7 months now. I feel like if you can’t prove to them you’re going to be bringing in $1000/ month almost immediately they just ignore you completely.
I’m sorry to hear that. For all that Substar lets go (and for that matter, what Patreon does turn a blind eye towards) I’d think yours would be a no brainer.
The whole Section 230 exemption was supposed to allow sites to be carriers without having to worry about what everyone posts, but they seem to want it both ways. TBF, it’s hard to determine if that’s payment processor’s heavy hand, the cloud providers who are hosting, or just random employees with no oversight who get a stick up their ass.
I’m sure that those who thought it was a good idea years ago to kill off certificates and DNS registration for ‘wrongthink’ (and collude with others to shut them out entirely) didn’t envision how far it would go, but now censorship seems to be in vogue again.
So is there any conclusion here?
What if today, I - an aspiring NSFW creator for straight adult content. (No loli/futa/shota/r.ape/go.re/furry etc.) want to create a page for supporters to join.
What’s my best option?
Cause right now I’ve only been looking at:
Patreon to host my posts and funscripts
Mega to host my access folders to mp4 files and funscripts
Joi Database / R34 video (depending on content) to host my video for online playback + download.
Anyone got better / safer ideas?
There is no best option. Pornography is a regulated industry. As such, there is a tremendous amount of money to be made, however, as people make money they tend to start prodding the edges of legality. This leads to new revisions on those laws, and businesses will readdress their participation in that industry in turn. Some will just make changes that will affect a small portion of their clients, like the Pornhub purge a few years ago. Others will make major changes that will affect large portions of their clients. Perfect example of this is Pornhub ceasing business in certain states instead of adjusting to comply with new laws.
So whats the best option? Stay informed on the industry you’re trying to make money in, large corporations often broadcast the audio of their board meetings. Diversify you sources so losing one isn’t crippling. and above all, build a rainy day fund, because regulated industries can be a bumpy road. The road usually smooths back out, but it can take a minute for that to happen especially for the smaller businesses.
Thanks for your input.
I personally view Patreon and Mega as a time bomb if your using them to share adult content through permanently instead of temporary. (like first week of it being uploaded)
Gumroad was becoming a time bomb as people were getting kicked off it but there’s stopped being reports of that occurring recently although they haven’t reversed the bans I believe.
Pixeldrain and Workupload I’ve found to be good download hosting sites though Pixeldrain you’ll need an account for and multiple of them along with a VPN. Workupload can start to throttle IP’s that connect to it too often which is often the case for VPNs.
Files.fm is an site I’ve been testing out as a 2 week alternate download option since that’s the max time you can have a file stay alive for without an account. It’s appeared to have been fine so far.
Joi Database I get the feeling kills video quality and haven’t found it to be easy to stream from as I’ve often ended up with videos not loading.
Rule34video is great meanwhile since I’ve had no streaming problems and it has download buttons for each quality option they provide.
Have you tried looking at HMVmania? As it is a place you can upload to though as the name suggests it’s intended for HMV’s rather than PMV’s.
As far as alternatives to subscribestar/patreon/gumroad…I believe it’s really only Pixiv Fanbox and Fantia but I believe you mustn’t upload the content onto them without censorship applied as they are Asian sphere’ed site wise. I believe you can link to other places where there you can have the uncensored versions though. Massive downside of those two sites is the fact that they are Asian sites where Fantia did attempt to block European countries from connecting to it for a very short few days. So they could easily just nope out and are willing to since they appeal to the Asian sphere alongside possible language barriers.
