New Handy user, lots of questions. Advice and tips welcome!

Just bought a Handy toy since it was 50% off and I was wondering what I needed for the following, considering i have these:

  1. A meta quest 3s (w/ virtual desktop)
  2. A PC in which i’ve been playing around with VaM and Koikatsu (no bluetooth on it yet)
  3. Lots of VR videos (mostly 3d stuff from videogames and creators like Nodu and AidenHet)
So my questions are the following.
  • What do I need to play funscripts for their respective videos in HereSphereVR player?
  • What do I need to connect the Handy properly for use in Virt-A-Mate?
  • Does the Handy have “recognition” of any video it “sees”? Like if I play a random video will it try to sync itself to it to emulate the thrusting in the video? Or do I need a specific script for said video?

Been a while since i have used VR and handy together, but I have also been re-setting it up a little bit recently so I will try to answer what I can

  1. Heresphere VR player has an in built connector to the handy, you will need your handy connection key and it will try to link the video you play with the funscript (same file name)

Setup instructions here:

HereSphere VR Video Player for Quest 2/Pro/3 supports Handy, Keon, Launch and Passthrough

  1. I’ve been slowing setting this up on the side myself, but i believe this plugin may help with getting handy to work with VAM (Bluetooth only As far as I can see). Maybe you can get more better or recent instructions looking around. This is the plugin.

Stroker sync

  1. Its not so much the handy from what i understand. Its like if script player sees playing X file, with X funscript. It will upload the funscript to the handy (if Wi-Fi).

(Post edit as i misread): The handy does not generate motion/funscripts. you will generally need a specific scripts (if videos and most games, but VAM and koikatsu i believe track a point in the model so those should not need it). But there are games that work with the handy so you could give those a look (software > games)

The script player (from what i understand) handles identifying the file being played and uploading the script to the handy, not the handy itself. Most script players come with video players so its 2-in-1. But some also offer using other media players (vlc etc.)

Oh you will also need intiface central (application) if using bluetooth for your handy (If using with VAM). Natively i do not believe that PC’s can upload scripts to handy via bluetooth without another program

This is just wat i have understood from using the handy with my PC so far.

I see, thank you very much. So is it better to do wi-fi or bluetooth on my PC with the Handy?

Depending on the app, you will only have 1 option. But when you can choose between both, I personally pick Wi-Fi atm.
Bluetooth overall is more responsive (pauses when you pause the video), But my nearest server for Wi-Fi still pings about 198 ms. Sometimes theres a delay when pausing when using Wi-Fi, but not for bluetooth.

There used to be some pain points for Wi-Fi (taking time to download scripts, delay when starting video, but still sync fine) but most of it has been fixed with FW4 (software update for the handy) in my experience. You can adjust offset so the script plays earlier/later if you have some synchronising issues (usually with wifi).

You can try ScriptPlayer to test some scripts with Wi-Fi (also has bluetooth support), I also have used syncopathy as my bluetooth player and was pretty satisfied, try both and see what you feel. (Syncopathy does not require intiface which is a big plus IMO if trying bluetooth)

Guess i’ll also have to buy a bluetooth receiver for my PC. Thanks again for the help. i can’t wait for the thing to arrive over here

That’s what some Ai developer should be doing is creating a player that just moves the handy with the on screen actions in real time with no script needed. Though that would effectively kill this community
