New Ownership

Thank you for taking your time to reply, that clarified a lot of things. As with a lot of things in life, it seems more complicated than what can be seen at a glance…

Thank you for all the hard work. I fully support your infra. plans and ethics on user data.

it kinda sounds like this is your strongly held, well-considered personal conviction, and it’s your forum, so that’s the end of my appeal

but just as a hypothetical:

  • nonprofit (very fitting for a community championing the user)
  • US-hosted, no EU business nexus (impossible anyways as nonprofit)
  • ToS granting the forum perpetual license to original content posted by the user
  • ToS granting fair use to all users associated with on-site discussion and common forum activities (quoting, modification)

do you believe this may give a solid foundation to permanently-retain-by-default a user’s contributions? just wondering since online community governance is an interest of mine.

Anyone have a quick tutorial of how to use use/run the plugin that will allow us to delete posts?

You cant at the moment.
I have to install it on the server and I’m doing that post migration.
Once its done I will let everyone know.

Note that it might sound simple. But its a far more complex task to do. Its not just renaming someone. Its making an unidentifyable account for every thread that was made. Removing any external link, and uploaded file as these can still contain personal info.

And especialy that last part is why its not worth it. If you have to remove funscripts (note, you dont, they by default dont contain personal info), you essentialy have no reason to preserve the content anyway.

And note, keeping such content wont be nice either. You would get something like:

  • threadname: deleted 124
  • pornhub link (no text containing a title, just a raw link)
  • funscripts named something like:
    • 124.funscript
    • 124.roll.funscript
    • 124.pitch.funscript
      -124(1).funscript

I dont think that such content would be worth to keep in a full thread. At best a lookup library for older content could help. And that does assume funscripts do not contain any personal data (tbh, if they do, it was a very deliberate act, and something that i would not worry about as the GDPR in this case is graceful enough that these have to just act upon specific takedown requests).
Or otherwise it would need a moderator to fix those threads every single time, a huge hassle.

And that vlad had to make the plugin is just another reason to rant at discourse. Its a feature they should have made years ago already. But being USA based are just too ignorant to do.
(good job there vlad)

And this is exactly what I replied to explain.

would you reconsider the 90day topic autoclose? i don’t really see a benefit.

for example:

this topic concerns build tips for OFS on macOS. it’s better to have all of that consolidated instead of starting a new topic.

I am open to any and all possibilities. If it makes sense to enough people and the mod team agrees potentially anything can change. It just has to reach my radar. The site feedback category is a great way to do that. I’ve been watching it.

Could it be tied to the member level? Level 1 could be restricted, while level 2 does allow it. It still can avoid the newest accounts from abusing this. And yes, there are cases where it will be anoying, but level 2 is already very easy to achieve that this requirement should be fine.

Autoclosing does prevent people commenting if for example the source went down.

Really ? :face_in_clouds:
(/me watching proposal from weeks with still no answer)

Just because I didnt reply doesnt mean I didnt see it.

Oki, I understand.

off topic

But I asked multiple times a feature since months, on multiples topics, even in general chat, but no answer at all from a moderator or admin (maybe just a « okay we’ll discuss this »).
Trying to made the Script Indexes best as possible, taking my time to to them, spending money to to subscribe to Patreons to have accurate informations possible. But for just a simple request to give some more visibility to them, it is, from my point of view, and sorry to say, I have just the feeling the request is simply ignored.

Congratulations on attaining owernship! :tada:  :tada:

I bet there will be a ton of things you have to do! Even if you just got ownership, right? No clue, about any of that carduffle, though. :face_with_spiral_eyes: Nor, do I offer any real help. :grinning:

What I can do is, wish for flawless and smooth migration! Looking forward to any improvement you can provide, after said migration! I very much like the lengthy and detailed explanations you give!

I’ve only just noticed, scrolling down here, that your name actually doesn’t have “Impaler” in it. FML, usually do ‘puny’ stuff like this myself! I’ve always subconciously thought that your Profile-Pic was a bit, unfitting.

Now I feel dumb. :slightly_smiling_face: Time to script something.

Im sorry if things go unreplied a lot, I’ll try to make that better. Right now my focus is bettering the infrastructure so the forum doesnt have slowdowns.

The good news is im quite close to being ready to do the migration. I just need some more testing of things.
