Some questions about headsets that possibly have been asked and answered already, but i couldn’t find.
How much better is the 3 over the 3S in terms of watching videos and such? Performance in games and such isn’t very important if that matters at all.
And how much better are the pancake lenses compared to fresnel lenses? As someone who don’t own and have never owned a VR headset my knowledge and experience on the subject is about non-existent.
never tried the 3s but had a 2 and now a 3. Huge difference in the lenses. pancake much more clear and bigger sweet spot over fresnel and would have a hard time going back. if you u got the money, id recommend the 3
Pancake lenses >>>>>>> Fresnel lenses
It’s such a game changer that you always have a clear picture unlike fresnel lenses with their sweet spots. It’s totally worth it.

Hey,
I haven’t tried the 3S but I’ve been using the Quest 3 for 6 months. My only experience prior was the Rift S I’ve used roughly 150 hours and one time I got to try the original Rift and a Vive Pro.
The pancake lenses are a nice upgrade, not as mind blowing as some say but a noticeable improvement. But for me the real factor is resolution. With the 3 personally it has finally reach the point where the image start to look good enough to enjoy vr 180° videos. And to be honest even with a nice 8K video it still feels closer to 1080p than 1440p on a flat screen as a comparaison. So for me the 3 is worth it, as I find sharpness to be more important for videos than gaming in VR.
At the end of the day it is a more capable headset both in term of visual and capability that I find to be worth the cost.
P.S. : If you were to consider using it for gaming with a PC, just know that it can be a bit frustrating to find the right setup
