Okay so my handy finally shit the bed a few weeks ago and I’m torn on what to replace it with.
Been reading about the syncbot and the drawbacks seem like they maybe wouldn’t bother me, but I can’t seem to figure out the current status of VR support.
Anyway to get it working with heresphere or should I look elsewhere?
As of right now, there’s no easy way to use the syncplayer with Heresphere. The syncbot really only works with the software they provide. That said, they did just add beta support for VR to their player (called syncplayer), so you CAN use it for VR (still kinda rough, but it’s beta), but not via heresphere.
There’s no direct way to link heresphere and the syncbot that I’m aware of. I hedged a bit and said not easy because you MIGHT be able to engineer a solution via a combination of technologies. Maybe using their syncbrowser to navigate to a url pointing to a customized webserver on your local machine. That server could relay commands from heresphere to the syncbot via the web page and maybe some clever javascript.
Echoing sol_k here. It’s quite easy. You just have to email Syncbot to get access to their beta Syncplayer. Assuming you’re doing a steam link or virtual desktop to Heresphere from your VR device and that you also connect Syncplayer with Heresphere through a really easy IP entry, you first have Syncplayer open with the video files and their associated funscripts or syncscripts already added to its library. Then you go into Heresphere and play a video as normal. It matches the title of the video played with what’s loaded in Syncplayer and it’s off the the races.
The only drawback in my opinion is that you can’t control the rotation/stroke/twist controls since you’re in VR and those controls are on the Syncplayer desktop UI. But, assuming you’re not fidgeting with those settings in the middle of videos, it’s quite seamless.
