If that was the expectation… then no toy will (and to me, its at least a healthy expectation here). They cant compete with a real girl, because they cant move. No matter how realistic they look, without movement, it will always lack.
And price wise, most of the time a lower end doll (around $1500) will do fine enough here (the main diffirence at that point is that instead of silicone they use TPE). TPE on that does have a diffirent feel. And while still not feeling like actual skin, it gets quite close.
But its mostly about what people do with the doll that defines if its worth it. If its purely for sex, its generaly not worth it. Things like sleeping with it, dressing it up etc are the thigns that can make such doll worth it.
And a higher end doll to get more realism is on that pure bait. As that realism isnt going to be there. For this instead of just being a doll, it has to become a robot. And even then, a robot is going to feel and look artificial. But if that is what you are looking for (and im sure plenty do), then these dolls arent bait.
Marketing however tries to bait you into believing they are a proper replacement. But thats what marketing departments do. Even if you look at cheap toys, they are always trying to convince you it feels like the real thing, but silicone and tpe never feel like actual skin (nor have the friction for this). Dolls are just the more expensive version here.
From my experience, downvotes have a downside along with them: echo chambers.
Downvotes allow oppinions to be muffled as once a group gets a majorty on such area, they will decide what gets upvoted to something posistive (and what doesnt). Thats an effect you dont want. The reason most platforms went that way was because they became aware of the abuse that became possible here. A lot of forums got flooded with duplicate accounts to force that oppinion, and combined with bots, it allows them to push the oppinion through.
Reddit is big enough to allow moderators to check for these things, and track potential bots (and ignore them). And even then isnt flawless. In certain areas they are a pure echo chamber. Especialy in gaming sections negative criticism isnt allowed (bug reports are not negative criticism), even though in several cases it is valid. The result is that those people will stop posting, causing their good feedback to be muffled away. At some point it can even go that bad that devs will use that to obtain oppinions, at which point the following updates cause the game to go into rapid decline (there is a reason why most good games always have a seperate forum where downvoting isnt possioble - its to keep these unpopular complaints in existance, and ensure that devs remain aware of potential bad decisions).
In niche forums, unless there is strong moderation on potential downvote abuse, its better to not have downvotes, they bring a hassle you often dont want. Although, i do remember some forums using a limit system here: Each 10 upvotes you can downvote once, just so the worst of the worst can be filtered (and this ratio is adjustable to avoid echo chambers). Maybe that might work here.
And if its realy needed, flagging is an option. Being more drastic, if abuse gets detected here, moderators can resolve to bans faster. And this usualy is very effective as abuse here is rare

The thought has occurred to me and that’s the main thing that’s been worrying me about these dolls. To get some idea I’ve checked out couple try on videos on pornhub to get some sense of weight at least.
That one doll I’ve specifically been eyeing weighs 28kg so that’s quite a bit and it kind of shows in those videos and many do mention the weigh being there. The doll is the Jennifer, the first picture in this thread. But if you position the doll instead in certain ways, I can imagine it being pretty good. I just don’t want some small torso doll but not a full sized one with head and long legs either.

Sadly they do not show another key factor: weight distribution. Often the weight in these things isnt centered.
Weight is not an issue if you can easily carry it by using methods of supporting it (grabbing the ass area, or its breasts. Especialy when ‘hugging’ it gives 3 contact points making it very easily managable).
As long as the doll has a very good balance, it barely matters where you ‘grab’ it, as it will aid into negating its weight on your cock (and therefor allows you to thrust). This generaly means the hips area must be heavier (and in this case, i would guess that area is already around 10-15kg).
Now if you only make it rest on your body and still rely on something else to stroke (like a handy), then it obviously doesnt matter as much. But as the weight now is carried by your hips, weight becomes an even lesser factor. The main advantage legs have to me is that those legs can be used as a support, allowing you to raise the doll a bit that way (legs in full sized dolls are often ment to carry the weigth).
And while the arms arent ment for carrying, they can still provide a little bit of it, but most important they allow you to have the upper torso upright while you are lying down: the arms fully stretched forward towards your arms give you a way to balance the doll. And thats giving quite the view there (for VR this isnt relevant though).
The only issue with most full sized dolls is that at some point the skeleton joints will wear and no longer provide stability (they now can freely rotate, forcing you to rely on diffirent support methods).
the torse dolls are extremely annoying to clean. imagine chugging 40 lbs into your sink and cleaning it. even if it has a metal spine it’s still going to flop around. then you gotta store it somewhere. it’s a hassle. i’d 100% recommend passing on one of these. if you want to blow 900 bucks. take 100 of that and go to an amp.

And you dont have to carry it to the sink either. You can use a handheld (anal) douche for that. The storage part is the only one to agree on. As thats a restriction you can either resolve (have enough space) or cant (lacking space). Smaller toys are easier to hide.
And for those 900 bucks, you can use that torso over a 100 times. The initial cost might seem high, but its cost vs usage rate isnt bad. A cheap toy does obviously do better here, but lacks some of the details that a torso has (mainly: boobs).
