VR Hardware + Software combos that should continue to "just work"

Preface:

This is a work-in-progress list of systems that should continue to “just work” for local files regardless of third party changes.

If you have a system that “just works” without a third party being able to easily revoke functionality, please list it here and I’ll add it.

Criteria:

  • No (or unlikely) mandatory forced software updates that break things, etc.
  • No (or limited) reliance on third party websites or non-local services.

OS: Linux (x86_64)
HMD: any SteamVR HMD
Hardware: Fleshlight Launch

  • SteamVR (offline mode should prevent updates)
  • launchcontrol
  • vr-video-player
  • VLC

Unverified:

OS: Windows 10
HMD: any SteamVR HMD
Hardware: any Buttplug supported device
Software:

  • SteamVR (offline mode should prevent updates)
  • ScriptPlayer
  • Intiface Desktop
  • HereSphere / Whirlygig (offline mode should prevent updates)

Are there any Android or Oculus solutions that are unlikely to be updated to remove script functionality?
