Hey there I have a question/thought that I wanted to check first before doing so. So some videos can be massive in file size or just be the raw file without any work done to reduce the size be it encoding in x265. Additionally not everyone has a system nor the idle time on it to do encoding and the tweaking you need to do for your chose program to get it so it works for you.
My thought thing is making a topic where people can request a video to be re-encoded and someone can fulfill this. They have to provide a link to said video (or the topic on here) and specify what if anything other than just reduce file size (like make it 720p from 1080 or reduce framerate) is to be done and someone picks it up, does it, uploads and links it in a reply post.
However as this site is meant for scripting…so although nothing is being hosted on the site except links to the videos would it be troublesome to allow this and does anyone have any other than myself see this as being an possibly useful thing?
I would be surprised if a category was added for this. This sounds more like something for the off-topic category. As you said, this site is about scripting and video encoding is mostly about that sometimes people do upscales for scripted videos.
However, you should probably put this thread in the site feedback category for consideration.
That’s why I said topic instead of category as it can all be talked about/done in a single topic, no need at all for another category. (Where I would put the request topic would be in off topic as it doesn’t fit anywhere else)
I didn’t put it into site feedback as that’s asking for site changes rather than asking if what I’m thinking about doing is A-ok and if anyone maybe wants it to sees it being useful to just have. (Because no point in doing up a topic for it if no one wants videos re-encoded to save disk space)
So for now I’ll leave it to the mods to decide if it should really be in site feedback rather than here.
