For handy, we have faptap.net, wanks.com, sexlikereal.com integration, etc. With syncBot, it looks like we have to download videos and have them analyzed, which is a big overhead to use. Would you say this lack of readily available resources is the biggest issue right now for syncBot? I am considering buying one but this seems to be a deal breaker.
The syncbot does have the SyncBrowser. It may still be in BETA, but it allows you to browser porn sites (at least pornhub) and it will have almost every video you find pre-analyzed and ones that are not processed yet can be queued to be processed by their AI.
So this sort of fills that gap. I do generally agree that the fact that most (all) syncbot related stuff is “closed source” is a problem. A lot of the stuff around The Handy exists because of the community and the embracing of existing software (like Initface and buttplug.io) which then allows for more innovation by the community.
Syncbot also recently added support to the syncplayer to connect to VR video players (I use DeoVR). This is sort of hacky and has flaws, but if you are willing to download the videos and their funscripts this is a good way to use the syncbot with VR and it works pretty well.
I think the biggest problem with the syncbot is that the stroke it too short. This thing has so much going for it, but like a 1.5 inch stroke. Compared to the 4+ inch stroke of The Handy it means I always find myself back to using The Handy. But the other two motions the syncbot does are super awesome so I’ve love to see a v2 that has a better stroke.
I’ve had both for a while and always end up using The Handy 80% of the time. Don’t get me wrong: the Syncbot is certainly a cool experience, but the closed ecosystem, beta-quality software and shallow-ish stroke mean I end up back with the Handy in the end.
Still, if you can afford it I’d recommend the Syncbot and using both based on how you’re feeling. I like to start with syncbot, but generally end with Handy.
Personally I don’t think it’s a big issue. Before we had sites like FapTap or SLR, we also downloaded the videos and scripts and played them with the Handy online player. Later we got good community software like ScriptPlayer. FapTap is also pretty new and just a few months old. I think most people still download the video and script and play it locally.
The software for the Syncbot is pretty good. I am not using the Syncbrowser that much, but I think it’s good and offers a cool experience. I mostly use the normal Syncplayer. While it needs more features like better sorting, the software works really well and I never had any issues with it. We also should give the Syncbot team time to develop their software and hardware. It was the same with the Handy. They improved the device so much over time.
If you can afford, go for both. The Handy is a great stroker, that works really well for harder and intense videos. The Syncbot offers a unique feeling with the rotation and contraction and is awesome for slower videos, especially blowjobs / handjobs. Variety is always great and you decide what you want to experience for the day.
I wrote a in depth review about the Syncbot. Maybe it could help you decide if the Syncbot is something for you or not.
I mostly agree with the reviews above. I have the Syncbot and the Handy, and use them alternatively. The fact that the Syncbot CAN use any video via the ai analyzer is a huge bonus, and most of the time I switch to the Syncbot, it’s because there is a video that doesn’t have a funscript.
The short stroke length is definitely the biggest hardware limitation, but I feel like they are already prepared to solve that once they have the capital. They cleverly made the actual stoker part replaceable, so they could absolutely offer upgraded sleeves at some point with an increased motion via some clever mechanics.
@Slibowitz touched on it, but my PERSONAL biggest problem with the Syncbot is the Syncplayer software. It’s adequate for playing videos, and the AI analyzer is downright impressive, but the basics, like the general UI and the completely flat, mostly unsorted playlist for managing videos is painful to use. My personal feeling is that the best investment they can make right now is to hire a developer with real UI/UX experience and make Syncplayer a viable software product that doesn’t look and feel like the beta it currently is.
Edit:
Remembered something else that wasn’t covered: connectivity. An original annoyance I had with the Syncbot was it’s us of a proprietary usb wireless controller that had to be plugged in to use it. Props to the Syncbot devs though, as of the current release of Syncplayer, you can change the options to connect using plain bluetooth without using their connector. Now I’m just waiting for @qdot to notice and support it in buttplug/initface.
I’ve had a syncbot for over a year now. Was talking with the company a few times over the past year about buttplug support, but haven’t heard anything from them in a while. Was mostly waiting to see if they wanted to do something on their end or what.
That said, wasn’t aware of the change to using plain bluetooth with Syncplayer, so will let our devices dev know about that.
