Gumroad Banning NSFW Content

In case you haven’t seen it, more payment processors have decided to bully another company into giving up NSFW.

I’m well aware of some of the high profile scripters on here that use Gumroad as a way for people to buy their scripts. If you have any alternatives, please offer them. If you have any scripts on gumroad, back them up NOW.

Does this really apply? There tends to not be anything explicit in the files.
“Fetish driven content” sounds vague and subjective.

That’s the problem. It’s incredibly vague and subjective, leaving room to interpretation. However, most likely this interpretation will not be in your favor. It is completely up to the person making the decision to ban. If they choose to ban it based on the idea that it is NSFW, there’s not much you can do.

Well there are a few that even have blatant ties to NSFW content and those that aren’t, hopefully those who are obfuscating them won’t have issues.

So like, I don’t have ANY obvious reference, NONE WHATSOEVER (other than the word script ),in a GR product. But if the NSFW police at GR followed the purchase trail, well they would find out easily what the product is. Think I’m ok or that it’s only a matter of time? Any suggested alternatives that WON’T be puritanical asshats? Thanks.

A lot of people have said Itch.IO is decent for stuff. It doesnt have to just be games/books to be on there.

If you are or can become comfortable with translating to and from Japanese, then Fantia already has a vibrant scripting scene and has both paid tiered subscriptions and single product purchasing options.
Fantia is never going to disallow NSFW content.
(Be sure to follow their ToS and do not redistribute content you don’t own, only offer your own script and link to the original work. Don’t include third party images in your Fantia posts.)

Thanks for the info. Too much morons sell stuff on gumroad with nude images and stuff like that. It was predictable. We will see what happens with the funscript files.

Sometimes you don’t link the original work. If you linked a video from a non-JP website without censorship enforcement, that count as a violation too. For iwara.tv videos scripters has to put the title and say something like “Google it yourself”.

And you’re right - Any images of the original work is not okay, even you blurred it out. I used to post on there too until my fanclub got suspended for unclear reasons. I suspect it could be due to my habit of making thumbnails which looked like this:
Fantiacover

The lesson here is don’t spend too much effort on your post and just dump the script on there. Possibly link your post somewhere else like this site.

And that imo makes Fantia an unideal place to browse and buy scripts, as most scripts arrive as pigs in the poke.

On a sidenote, payouts are extremely slow. Without a JP bank account it’s best to cash out as “Tora Coins”, which can only be spent on other creators.

Gumroad has always been funny about NSFW content, but scripts themselves are just computer programs really, nothing NSFW is stored within a script file its just code. So i dont imagine they would have too much of an issue with it.

Reading that page i dont think scripts fall under since there is nothing inherently sexual about them, the only give away would be the referral trail back to here with the links

I feel safer already.

I completely understand decorum and not wanting to have huge porno titties on images on an otherwise all ages site; You don’t need to use a picture of a dick on the package to sell a box of condoms at a pharmacy. The issue is when someone starts parsing through and saying this is ok and this isn’t ok and why; eg straight scripts are ED aids, “Fetish” scripts are pornography. It’s not paranoia when people’s lives have been historically reduced to a fetish.

Scripts are just text files. The few I’ve bought tend to have the script itself, and a text file containing the URL to the media in question, so they aren’t even linking anything directly.

What’s really needed is government legislation that squarely categorizes payment processors as utilities, which aren’t permitted to discriminate against anyone for any reason without a court order.

Can anyone suggest alternatives to Gumroad? I got an email from them stating that my account will be closed by the end of the month.

Here’s the body of the email: On March 18th, our primary payments partner alerted us that they were rejecting your accounts for selling sexually explicit content, and that the rejection date for these accounts is set for March 28th.

I had a call with their team, in order to buy more time, but ultimately was not successful in doing so.

We’re thankful for the years we were able to support you in your creative pursuits, but it’s no longer possible for us to do so. Unfortunately, we’ve been told other platforms are being equally affected.

You can re-read our policies on adult content here, which we’ve updated to be as clear as possible about the kinds of content our payment partners allow us to support: Adult content on Gumroad - Gumroad Help Center

Of course, we will pay you out your remaining balance.

We’re super sorry about the inconvenience!

Please let me know if we can help with anything else.

So far only seeing those including images and/or make mention of the exact content it pairs with as having issues. Think Polt has the best current solution to this as his scripts only have a funscript heat map for the image on Gumroad and no mention of what it exactly pairs with in the description.

Thanks for the advice. I’ll set up a new Gumroad account and try what Polt is doing. Cheers.

I just started selling on gumroad and my post has been deleted twice. No pictures or any content other than a funscript file w/ a cryptic file name. I’m assuming they did a manual review of me because it was my first post. I’m currently trying to use a text file with instructions on changing the extension to funscript. I’ll wait and see what happens.

When I talked to support the email they sent me said “Unfortunately if the intention of the product is sexual gratification, it is therefore an adult product.”

Did you tagged it as NSFW ?

grafik

There’s no option to tag it as NSFW anymore, at least not when I go to create.

I can still find it at “share” tab when I add a new product.
