FUNSR1 - the better Handy - my detailed review

The USB only provides connectivity unfortunately. You’ll need a DC power brick to run it.

Yes, and both MFP and ScriptPlayer say “connected.” Both players even show the title of the video playing in Heresphere.

I’m playing local files.

Yes, all of my scripts have the same name as their video. Everything works fine when I play a script on my computer with MFP or ScriptPlayer. It’s only when connecting these players to Heresphere that it acts like there’s no script. My Handy has also been playing scripts when directly connected to Heresphere via wifi for years now. I can’t understand what I could be doing wrong.

Do you have HereSphere on a quest?
How are you playing scripts on your computer?

Yes, I have Heresphere installed and fully updated on a Quest 2. I have the timestamp server enabled. I’ve also toggled this off and on and refreshed it many times. I’ve refreshed the IP address, and entered the IP address and port displayed in Heresphere into both MFP and ScriptPlayer. I have also restarted my headset and computer between attempts.

For years without issue I’ve been playing scripts on my computer with my Handy connected via wifi to ScriptPlayer. I can also play scripts on my computer with the SR1 connected via USB to Intiface and connect to ScriptPlayer that way. I can also play scripts on my computer with the SR1 connected via USB to MFP and use MPV for video.

There is a difference in playing videos on your computer and on your quest.

If you are playing on a quest then MFP probably can’t find the path to the video file and match the script so you have to add a script library.
Click “script repositories” button (its to the left of the play/pause), select “Local” tab, and add a path to the folder where your scripts are. You can check the “recurse subdirectories” option if you have subfolders.

If that still does not work then post your latest log file in this thread because we are getting offtopic:

I guess that worked, but is it supposed to take five minutes to load the script every time? The FunSR1 is connected with the usb cable directly to my computer so I thought this was supposed to be instantaneous or at least faster than the Handy downloading a script over wifi. I’ll post the log over in the other thread in case I’m just doing something wrong.

@Slibowitz Do you experience these extremely long loading times with the Funsr1 when trying to play something on Heresphere?

No, it works instantly. But my setup is different. SR1 is connected via USB to my PC. For VR content I am using my Pico 4 with Virtual Desktop to run HereSphere. The scripts are stored on my PC and are not stored on my VR headset.

Okay well that’s good news but also really frustrating because that’s basically my same setup. The only difference is that I’m using a Quest 2, and I don’t use Virtual Desktop. Hopefully I can get this sorted in the other thread because I am really excited to actually use this thing.

my initface isnt connecting to my funsr1. id like to play vids on scriptplayer and ive gone to ratattacks post so…still cant get it to connect. help please

now im trying to connect to MPV but it starts to connect then gets disconnected

I had the same problem at first. With this it should work:

yea i got it

what mount do you use? now my vesa mount screws dont fit the funsr1. they slide in and out

You can buy different screws then, you don’t have to get a new mount.

I am not sure this thread is active but…New to SR1 and having trouble getting it to operate at all. Hoping someone can help. At the moment I am just trying to get computer to recognize it and get some movement to confirm it is not a defective unit. I started with the Mutlifunplayer/ MPV as described in the review. Mutli insists serial is disconnected. Then I tried running through the Ayla website as described in the tutorial. Initially site said serial was undefined. After switching to Chrome, Ayla site says it is connected. I think I have the right port because when I pull the USB, it reflects as disconnected on Ayla. When I ‘start’ operation, the image on the site moves but SR1 is dead. I know the unit is getting power because there is a slight buzz when turned on. Other than a few slight occasional twitches when powered on, there is no movement. I downloaded the driver referenced in the tutorial. The buttons on the unit do not work at all which is frustrating because I specifically asked the merchant about manual operation via buttons.

I probably should have stuck with the handy but I wanted something more robust that could handle heavier payload (been through 2x handy). I am not super computer savvy though I have VR and VAM and can usually get up to speed with instructions.

Hoping there is something simple I am missing and that the unit is not simply broken or defective. I am working with the merchant who has been responsive but there is a time difference. Thought I would ask the community. Any help would be appreciated.

Double check your magnet orientation, the N/S pole needs to be orthogonal to the encoder. This can result in jerky movement when trying to execute moves.

Also check that you haven’t punched the bolts that hold the motor into the coils. If you use too long of a bolt to mount it, you can damage the coils and get the behavior you describe.

I’m using mine through bluetooth and had to point multifunplayer to the right comport and it worked. maybe thats the problem?

I really appreciate the response. But how do you activate the bluetooth? It seems most devices have to be searchable by computer. Usually there is a button on the device. When I scan for the device either with intiface or try to connect through multifunplayer, there is no recognition that the device is there and not sure how you enable bluetooth on the device. I thought using the USB would be a more stable route, particularly given the notes in the review. Not having much luck…

Is everything set up correctly in Multifunplayer? Did you choose the correct serial port? Also, check the serial port settings - device has to be disconnected to check the settings.

If you don’t know what serial port the FUNSR1 is on, open the hardware manager - type in Windows search. Open it and find something that says “Connection (COM & LPT)” - I don’t know exactly know what it’s called in English, since my Windows is not English. Once you found it, right click and properties. Then go to “device settings” (or whatever it’s called in English). Check the settings and make sure Multifunplayer has the same settings like in the hardware manager.

It looks like this - your settings may be different, that’s normal.

I really appreciate the response. I am not seeing the option to change those settings in multifunplayer (I cannot find the screen you provided) MFP simply says serial is disconnected. Not identifying any com. I can confirm what port device is using through device manager USB SERIAL COM 3 (CH 340) but I cannot enter the information in multifunplayer. Where are those device settings options?

I have had similar problem with Intiface. I am not able to pull up “advance device configuration” to enter this information. I have looked at OSR2/SR6 to Intiface Central connection unofficial rough guide but I cannot pull advanced setting options.

I have confirmed I have latest versions and driver. I will keep working on it but any additional help would be greatly appreciated.
