Why is this community so full of ****?

They dont censor your words at all, you can post it. But freedom of speech is still limited, while that law says you are allowed to do such things, it doesnt mean it has no consequences. Things can backfire eventualy.

For piracy, and most crimes. If you are asking someone to do something illegal (internet or personaly has no diffirence), then you are doing an illegal thing. Now sure, the way its asked on the internet has a few things going with it that might weaken punishment (or avoid it entirely), since its harder to prove whether you aware of its illegal state. This is the difficult part, but at the same time also easy to prove when doing this several times (only 1 person has to point to you its illegal, and from that point on asking it again means you should be aware of it).

Your argument of expecting it to be pirated does not mean you should participate in it. It doesnt weaken the illegal state at all.

The biggest issue is proving it happens, and especialy with forums like these, its going to be far too much hassle, with potentialy no gain. And that last part is what defends most of the users. Even just trying to obtain the user info for the relatively few users that ask for a free link, its something that is most likely not going to result in anything usefull. Anti piracy companies are well aware of this. Hence they usualy want the site to enforce more strict rules instead (shifts the tasks away from them). And if the site owner doesnt do this, he might become responsible instead. This is where the users are at risk (as when the site owner obeys, those users now face bans)! Anti piracy companies are still active at this.

Also, piracy is not theft, so on that it already falls under a diffirent scale. And even the types of piracy can be very diffirent (downloads and uploads are in most countries generaly not worth it to go after as you are not going to make profits. not all countries have punitive damages applied - a good thing!).

And as this site is relatively niche… it most likely wont be at risk. But as its not 0 either…

Note that even a VPN isnt fully anonymous. VPN companies might say they dont log anything, but in many countries that would instantly also be the self destruct button. Quite a lot of logging is required (who is buying the vpn, and usualy which ips were tied to users during certin times). VPN companies only provide anonimity since without those official requests, that information isnt going to be released. And its short lived information as well (but generaly still several weeks).
VPN companies that do not obey this are often listed and can be blocked. Not to mention that your payment info reveals an instant red flag (they dont even need to know what you did to already flag you as potential criminal).

But in the end, most users can be expected to be safe because most of the time the takedown requests do go to the sites on which the content was hosted anyway. And as those sites generaly have very good procedures, why bother with a niche site? As you stated, piracy is expected to happen anyway. As long as you can get all the big companies to work with you, you generaly can filter out most of the content effectively. It makes the search for the content hard enough (and that proves it is effective).

And yes, your search info can be used against you! Just to mark how far they can go. And most big search engines will reveal the information on official requests. But to repeat. Its most of the time not worth it. Sharing some already spreaded videos, vs taking down massive content leakers is a big diffirence. Those bigger uploaders are the ones they want as that is 1000x more effective (and can actualy generate profit).

You can ask for torrents or leaked content (I’m referring to legality).

Actually in all cases (excluding obtaining child pornography) you are not committing a crime by downloading shared content.

It is only the person sharing the content that has legal ramifications for sharing copyrighted content.

I won a battle with Veoh back in 2007 where they deleted star trek series episodes I had downloaded to watch on my hard drive from their service that someone had shared. That was illegal on their part. They reached outside of their app’s directory and deleted content off my hard drive in a personal folder. Yes it was shared copyright content, but it was illegal for them to delete it from a folder outside their app directory regardless. It is also generally illegal to delete content from someone’s hard drive period.

They had to change their app.

So no, there is no legal ramification for asking a question concerning obtaining copyright content in a means that is not directly through the paid portal.

I want to restate that I don’t condone or support piracy. I don’t share copyright material without the author’s consent. In the case of the star trek episodes, they were on the Veoh playlist and I watched them. They discovered they were on their site and removed the content from the channel that shared it, but went too far in deleting the files from my hard drive, which were there after I had watched them.

You can ask for a torrent, but if that torrent refers to illegal content, then that is still considered filesharing (as that includes asking someone else to share it to you). And the laws state that sharing is only fine if one of the parties was permitted to share by the owner. In all other cases its illegal. A very big advantage here: if you ask someone else, and the other one shared a link to a public source, he doesnt have to ask if you were permitted (makes verification of legality difficult).

A link might not be the file itself, but its still distributing the file. And this falls under filesharing rules. This however only affects the poster! (and if using a VPN and dump account, becomes almost impossible to trace).
If the distributor themselve however released the file for free at any point in time, then regardless of sharing method, as the file was at some point public, spreading those sources (the links and torrents) isnt illegal. What can still be illegal is uploading of the file itself (as that is still copyrighted material, the public links and references are not).

If someone clicks on the link, and it goes to a streaming site, then he is allowed to watch the stream, since the hoster is then responsible for removal. Downloading and saving the file however is something that varies on a per country basis (in many countries its legal).
If its however a site like mega or any file storage, then its illegal to download from there (unless the site offers a way to watch it as a stream instead).

But again, as it varies per country and the internet is international. Its simply not worth it to target individuals (except in the US which have horrible laws on that).

And it can backfire, since while this site now is relatively unknown, if such case would be made, it could be massive marketing to this site. And even if the old content was deemed illegal. As the site owner isnt forced to remove it at once, or even block it at once (there is a timeframe that considers what is reasonable to ask), it can cause a lot of people to suddenly visit the site. And that amplifies the issue.

If in your country they are flexible (i luckily know that in my country they are), then yes, you can fight back. But in plenty of countries you are required to proof that sharing that link, or downloading that file was legal for you (in my country, no matter how software is shared, if you downloaded it illegal, its still illegal without any exceptions. even if you downloaded it legaly, but lack a licence, usage can still be illegal).

Copyright laws are a mess (which is a major luck for this site as it does protect its users as especialy on sites like these you can expect people to protect their identity. and the site owner on that is generaly also required to handle their users in such way, making it difficult for companies to obtain info).

In nearly all cases, they should check for the situation that caused the infringement to happen. As without such information, there is not enough proof. And this is why most of those cases end up being lost. They often just sue a lot of people, and upon the first bit of resistance already stop, in the hope that 1 person catches their bait and pays them to avoid further actions (an activity i actualy wish would be illegal, but sadly isnt).

I think all this discussion around the legality of links, torrents, etc., is missing the point that @mADsCRIPTS put so well.- this is not a piracy forum. If finding videos/scripts in a easy packed place is important, go get a SLR subscription.

There are so many other resources and forums dedicated to piracy that are just a simple google search away. Perhaps we just should replace file requests with link to https://www.reddit.com/r/Piracy/

Changed subscription access.
Now all my scripts will always be free, the only thing is that I ask a little money for early access.

Thank you for this discussion.

I was mostly a lurker the past year ever since I joined, downloading what I liked and throwing a like on the post and/or a download link in the post, leaving a comment here and there occasionally.
I tried my hand at scripting, but alas I do not have the patience for it, but what I do have is hundreds of videos off this site upscaled to 4K interpolated to 60fps. (big thanks to @g90ak for setting me on this path to begin with)

While I am still hesitant in exposing myself and putting myself potentially in danger by throwing it all on a cloud somewhere with public links, I do want to find a way to give back to the community pseudoanonymously to give back to the community this way.

I’ve never understood why every discussion like this is turned to neverending story of legality of links.

It’s not about your stupid links, it’s about some dignity. You don’t have to spam the living hell out of someone’s post / DMs because you can’t wait a few days to see if someone posts a link.

…maybe users should achieve a certain level to be allowed to access DM’s? Is this what the real problem is, peeps spamming you? Hmmm.

Issue is this is an unrestricted site, no membership / fees / etc. This is a good because it encourages unrestricted traffic, but bad because the lack of accountability means disrespectful spamming, which conversely is alienating the very people this site is supposed to support.

So i suggest that the ability to DM should be restricted till the user has reached level 1. Like any free to play game, we should demand some form of skin in the game if you wanna have a voice, so by demonstrating a level of active participation, you get to be treated like a grown up.

It’s easy to reach level 1, just make some posts, offer some likes, engage a bit for a few days, exactly the kind of behavior this discussion is seeking to encourage.

If peeps wanna fly by night, grab shit and bugger off, no probs, they still can. They wanna whine like fucking bitches about links, do it as a post where we can all see you and support the scripter. DM’ing scripters should be a privilege, albeit one that would not really hard to obtain if you actually give a fuck about this site, and DM’s were restricted till level 1…

My biggest complaint would be asking for mega’s all the time. Doesn’t happen to me (I don’t have much on here anyways) but I see it constantly. Here’s an idea, why don’t you buy a sub to mega and upload all your shit for everyone? Nah? Don’t wanna do the work AND fork over the money? Tough titties. And while numerous times I have a found a video I think would be great to find the mega unavailable I’ll spend 1 minute searching the rest of the of the topics comments for an updated or link and if nothing, about 5 minutes of searching online. As for tech savvy and internet literacy goes, I’m a fucking farmer. I live in the bush. I’ve even wrote and posted scripts here, and I barely graduated high school (toughest 8 years of my life  ), no school since. And some citiots can’t figure this out? It’s pure lazyness and self entitlement 100%. If you can figure out how to connect a robot hand to your dick and computer then you can find a video online. It’s not Kazaa, they’re everywhere in multiple copies/resolutions on multiple sites and p2p networks.
That’s my 2 cents.
Thanks to every creator on this site by the way.

I am in the same boat. I appreciate all scripters for their work, and only comment when a script/video is especially great, or if I can add something to the conversation. I think there are other many silent appreciators of scripter’s work

When anonymous, people dont care about dignity. For them you realy need to convince them of the potential consequences. And with piracy, they can be life changing. Getting a 100k fine is for many people enough to be in poverty for the rest of their life. Thats why those warnings are important and why its important for people to know what is legal.

Modern day poet. Always appreciate a witty turn of phrase.

I remember when I got my lifetime pass to Pornhub. A month later they deleted 2/3 of their content and disabled downloads. Active subscriptions to content, even when it isn’t porn, doesn’t guarantee your access to that content. A lot of times even buying individual videos doesn’t mean you will always have access to that content. I’ve lost dozens of scripts I purchased from websites that have come and gone. Maybe SLR has some clause in their contracts with studios to serve videos to customers who purchased them even if the studio pulls their content from SLR, but I doubt it. For this reason, piracy will not die for people who refused to be cucked by the companies they pay for content. This is why piracy is the backup by default.

Gaming has already adapted and minimized piracy better than anyone. Localized pricing, older games for cheap on GoG, and competitive markets. It took some well run companies to stand as pillars of their industry to pull this off. It’s not clear that the porn industry could ever even achieve something similar.

You can exclaim that we should invest in the current porn business models while they swirl the bowl like blockbuster, but many people will vote with their wallets against it. Pornhub showed us how an irresponsible company can push people away from financial engagement with their industry. It honestly needs an Elon Musk of porn to sweep up some major studios and change the industry for the better.

There will be a point of no return for the porn industry. Compute power and software will very quickly be at a point where you can digitally recreate any scene with anyone. We’re probably 10 years from being able to fully generate porn with AI. From Dall-E to asking Siri to generate you 15 minutes of femdom with a thicc red head. I, for one, believe the porn industry will squander the time they have left.

I don’t believe piracy should be a go-to, but no industry has succeeded in making it irrelevant.

created a topic for the dm level specific idea Should DMs be restricted to higher user levels?

I also wonder if we should all be trying to enforce a much stricter culture of not being an annoying begger. This means lots more flagging of posts.

Of course that relies on all of you to help flag.

I will start flagging if that’s what the consensus is.

There’s an inherent problem with wanting to be open and free to everyone while also wanting to keep the community clean. I know its somewhat of a taboo word in this day in age but some people need to be gatekept out of the community until they’re ready to not act like a leech.

If someone wants to lurk, grab scripts and videos and leave, thats w/e, theyre not bothering anyone.

If they want to bother the community with script requests outside of the relevant area(indicating they didn’t fucking read any rules/guidelines), or beg for links and mega, then they don’t deserve any rights or respect.

If you’re gonna be lazy, fucking pay for easy access. If you’re gonna be cheap then fucking put the effort in to pirate.

Is there a way for mods to put strikes against accounts for this type of behavior then after a certain amount they get banned? Accounts are free but trust lvl requires an ounce of effort

i don’t think there’s any automatic like ‘3 strikes you’re out’ system. Mods have to manually choose specific action on an account.

Off topic, but I can’t resist. The first thing that came into mind was a Big Bang Theory episode…
